TDY

TDY orders send service members away from their home station temporarily, with per diem to cover meals and lodging. TDY can range from a 2-day conference to a 179-day training rotation. Unlike a PCS, TDY does not involve a permanent move. The Army, Air Force, and Space Force use 'TDY'; the Navy and Marines use 'TAD'; the Coast Guard uses 'TAD' as well.
